CAFS in Action - Prescribed Barn Burn

The following CAFS demonstration took place in rural Indiana in 2002. The scenario is as follows:

The structure was once a confinement shed for raising hogs. The building is a wood frame structure built in the late 1930's with asphalts shingles. The structure was full of miscellaneous items that added to the fire load including tar paper, wood crates, lumber, etc.

Building dimensions are approximately 48 feet wide by 70 feet long by an average height of 14 feet. Building with contents equated into an extremely high fuel load.

Equipment used:

Darley AutoCAFS

150 ' of 1.75 inch hose - SINGLE HOSE LINE

Task Force Tip 1.5 inch ball valve with 1.25 inch tip

60 GPM foam solution flow rate @ 60 CFM air flow @ 100 psi

Notice the heavy black smoke and incipient stages of flashover immediately prior to introducing the CAFS firestream. Watch closely as the CAFS is introduced into the inferno and the heavy black smoke quickly dissipates. The flames are quickly extinguished and amazingly, knockdown occurred within 8 seconds of application! What an amazing testimonial exemplifying the potential of CAFS!

Less than 10 gallons of water used!
